The name September comes from the old Roman word ‘septem’ which means seven and septimus means “seventh”because in the Roman calendar it was the 7th month. September was in fact the seventh month of the Roman calendar until 46 BC, when the first month changed from Kalendas Martius (1 March) to Kalendas Januarius (1 January). It is the sixth month of the Astrological calendar, which begins end of March/Mars/Aries. September marks the beginning of the ecclesiastical year in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
The Anglo Saxons called it Gerst monath (Barley Month) because it was then time when they harvest barley to be made in their favorite drink – barley brew. They also called it Heafest monath or Harvest month.
The Roman believed that the god Vulcan looked after the month of September. As the god of the fire and forge they therefore expected September to be associated with fires, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. September is the start of school year. Students return to school after summer holiday.
September in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent of March in the Southern Hemisphere. In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological autumn is 1 September. In the Southern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological spring is 1 September.
September begins on the same day of the week as December every year, because there are 91 days separating September and December, which is a multiple of seven (the number of days in the week). No other month ends on the same day of the week as September in any year.
This month is a crucial and significant month for various reasons for many people in many cultures. September is however the 9th month of the Gregorian calendar. For the Jews, it is the seventh (7th) month following the religious calendar, but the 1st month of their civil year. They called it ETHANIM (TISHRI) and marked this time with special festivals or feasts. ETHANIM (TISHRI) -Constantly flowing, a month so named before the captivity, because the autumnal rains them begin to fill the dry river channels. It was afterwards called Tishri, and answers nearly to our October. On this month Solomon\’s temple was dedicated, 1 Kings 8:2.
There are 7 feasts in the Old Testament calendar (Lev 23). The last 3 feasts occur in the fall (autumn) during the month of Tishri. These are: Feast of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) and the Feast of Tabernacles (Booths, ingathering) (Neh 8:14; Exo 34:22). The Jewish New Year (called Rosh Ha’Shana in Hebrew) also falls on the new moon of Tishri. This will give you an idea on when these feasts tally with our Roman calendar.
The heavens will be very busy during this season. During this month there are a number of events that take place; The autumnal equinox will occur on 23 September 2015 when the sun will be directly over the equator crossing southward and creating the phenomena of “equal nights”. It also marks an exit from the summer season and entry into the gate of new seasons – the fall/autumn in the northern hemisphere and the entry from winter to spring in the southern hemisphere. There will be a partial solar eclipse on 13 September. The fourth and final blood-moon in the Tetrad, which commenced last Passover 2014, will occur during the Feast of Tabernacles on 28th September. It will also be a supermoon.
This is a month of festivals or feasts of Lord. There are 7 feasts in the Old Testament calendar (Lev 23). The second lot of feasts occurs in the fall (autumn) during the month of Tishri. This is a season of many ritual festivals. The Israelites made offerings to YHVH every month in praise, and worship and normal burnt offerings. The 7th month marked the beginning of a new cycle of life. Therefore they blew the silver trumpets to mark this new beginning during Feast of Trumpets [Rosh H’shanah]. It also marks the beginning of the Biblical new civil year calendar.
In addition, the people rejoiced in Lord’s blessing throughout the past year, and asked for His blessing for the New Year. The 10thday of this month marks The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). On that day, a solemn assembly is held and burnt offerings are presented to YHVH (Lev 23:27-32). Repentance is made for sins and transgressions committed in the year past, and His forgiveness asked. On the 15th day of this month the 7-day feast of Tabernacles [Sukk’ot, Booths, ingathering) (Neh 8:14; Exo 34:22) commences. (Source –GAPNET
This will lead us into our civil year of 2016 — one of the most pivotal years in modern history. Nations will align, and Babel will begin to shake! This is a year that God sends His Word from Heaven to pummel the Gates of Hell. This is the year His Hammer Word breaks open Gates that have been held shut. This is a year that Kingdom Force will be applied in the earth realm. God’s Kingdom people will confound the enemy and plunder resources!
This will also be a year of supernatural giving to secure the five remaining years of this 10-year season. God’s people will go up to the high places to worship and overthrow ruling thrones. This is a year that new leaders will arise in civil arenas. Many people say that we are preparing for visitation. However, this is a year of visitation so we can prepare for the future. This will also be a year of the “moment.” He will visit you in the present, to reconcile your past and unlock your future, in a moment!
