In Philippians 3 we read that Paul demands to know God in a very distinct and
strong level of revelation and power.
Scripture: Philippians 3:1-11
Is this principle in the New Testament? I can almost hear some saying “We certainly are New
Testament people. We want to see this in the New Testament.” In Philippians 3 we read that
Paul demands to know God in a very distinct and strong level of revelation and power. We
are plainly told this. As a matter of fact, beginning in verse 8 we find, “But indeed I also
count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I
have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be
found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is
through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him
and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to
His death,….” That is a dramatic declaration Paul wants not only to move in the
resurrection power of God, but he wants to know the Lord in the fellowship of His
sufferings – even being conformed to His death. That is a dramatic demand to put on God.
We must ask ourselves, “What does this mean?” According to the pattern of Abraham does
this mean God will take Paul through the price to know the Lord in this way. Then we must
ask ourselves, “Did this ever happen to Paul? Did Paul ever die and then learn the power of
resurrection in his own physical body?”
