The Ministry Of The Prophet Is Oftentimes More Destructive Than Constructive
Scripture: Mark 11:15-19
Suddenly we have in the actions of Jesus a total and complete turning of temple business
upside down. His teaching was very short, but it was to the point. “Is it not written, ‘My
house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a ‘den of
thieves.’” It is obvious Jesus is very upset and He is turning over the established order so the
new order can take root and grow. Jeremiah knew this process when he said the ministry of
the prophet is oftentimes more destructive than constructive, at least we see in Jeremiah 1
where the Lord puts His hand, touches his mouth, and says, “…I have put My words in your
mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, (1) To root out
and (2) to pull down, (3) To destroy and (4) to throw down, (5) To build and (6) to plant.” So
it’s obvious in the process of transitioning a church, a religious system, or a nation we often
find ourselves doing the upheaval first so the new can later be established.
