Ruth made a life-altering choice

 Ruth 1:16-17

We get a glimpse into Ruth’s heart when she says, “Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you, For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God. Where you die I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.” Naomi witnessed Ruth’s fervor and determination and stopped trying to dissuade her from returning to her native land. Together they journeyed to Bethlehem. What we’ve seen revealed so far in this narrative is a pivotal choice. Ruth made a life-altering choice, ‘I like you better than my family. I like your God better than the God\’s of Moab. So I choose you! And I choose your God.’ In returning to a land of previous famine, they were the lowest of the low and had no future except poverty. In the natural that was what was ahead. They were utterly dependent upon God! The question was, would they find redemption in Israel? Would God honor Ruth’s choice to leave her family, her life, her culture, and the gods of her land? Ruth was choosing sacrifice, humility, and servanthood, embracing the cross! What does this scripture tell you about God? What does this scripture tell you about man? Since this is God’s word what changes do I need to make in my life? Whom am I going tell or share with?

  • Dearly beloved, “Ye are the light of the world” but you cannot be light to the world if you fail to present your spirit to the Lord to be continuously enlightened by His word.
  • The tangibility of your shining light to the world is your good works which you cannot do without light from the Lord. Proclaim and deeply meditate on Mat 5:14-16
  • Pray for yourself, siblings, spouse, friends, the church, etc that God will inspire the above understanding and also birth the appetite for His word in you. (Job 32:8; )
