Anak In Chaldee Means Self-Willed Or A Strangler, Giving Us The Idea That Self-Will Strangles The Leadership Of The Holy Spirit

Scripture: Numbers 13:22; I Samuel 13:5-14

Arba’s son was Anak. Anak in Chaldee means self-willed or a strangler, giving us the idea that self-will strangles the leadership of the Holy Spirit. First Samuel 13 gives us an excellent portrait of this principle in operation. Saul is leading Israel and the people come to him to fight for their country. Once again the situation is one where Israel is greatly outnumbered (36,000 to 3,000). Saul was waiting for a set time appointed by Samuel, as the pressure began to build for confrontation. Verse 8 says, “Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. So Saul said, ‘Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.’ And he offered the burnt offering. Now it happened, as soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him. And Samuel said, ‘What have you done?’ And Saul said, ‘When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash then I said, “The Philistines will now come down on me in Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.” Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering. And Samuel said to Saul, ‘You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.’” The giant Saul failed to slay was the self-will resident in his own heart. Had he been able to wait on the Lord in the face of insurmountable odds, God would have established his kingdom forever. In the preparation we often face we should not think it a strange thing to be facing insurmountable odds. When we try to do it and make it happen, we fail the test and God has to look for somebody else. Anak was the father of the giants. Saul’s self-will strangled obedience to the word of the Lord and cost him his kingdom. Is God revealing giants within through our current circumstances?

His blood makes me free. His blood makes me righteous. His sacrifice made me acceptable, and I am accepted in the beloved. I am accepted by God. I am accepted by Jesus Christ. I will follow His leadership and His will.

His Spirit lives in me, walks in me, and talks in me. He is my God, and I am His child. I am a son, manifesting the name and the glory of God to this world. I am maturing. I am not carnal; I am spiritual. I do not take offense; I refuse to take offense. I refuse to give unnecessary offense, but I will not compromise the Gospel or the truth of the Word of God.
