A Historical Thermometer By Which We May Assess The Spiritual Temperature Of
Individual Nations
Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:1-2
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 provides a historical thermometer by which we may assess the spiritual
temperature of individual nations to see where they stand. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 outlines for

us God’s demand concerning covenant. He says if we diligently obey the voice of the Lord,
and carefully do His commandments, then He will set us high above all nations on the earth. He
even goes on to say that all the blessings of the covenant will come on us and overtake us if
we obey the voice of the Lord. If we look historically at your country how many years has the
nation existed? We will see many nations turn more and more toward selfishness,
accepting the idolatry of humanism, corruption, and sowing to the flesh, thus turning away
from God to the pleasures of life. We discover the fruit of judgment. The adversity of
Deuteronomy 28:16-66 is in fact our current heritage. We must admit what Deuteronomy
says has certainly been manifesting itself in our midst.
Prayer for the Church: The question is – are we willing to do what it takes to turn it around?
Pray for these to happen in churches all over the nation. The Kingdom can also manifest in
the atmosphere around us as Peter experienced. Holy Spirit overshadowed Peter just like
He did Mary at the conception of Jesus. Luke 1:35 says, “And the angel answered and said to
her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you;
therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
